From Morgan Avenue to Westgate: Remembering Monessen's Third Ward is a digital archive preserving the memory of Monessen, Pennsylvania's former neighborhood of Westgate, which is often times referred to by locals as Morgan Avenue, its main thoroughfare. This neighborhood was literally wiped off the map due to the urban renewal movement that was prevalent in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s.

This is the start of an ongoing effort to collect, preserve, and share the history of this neighborhood and the people who once called it home. As such, community collaboration is vital.  Please contact me if you have anything you would like to add to this digital archive. Examples of contributions include pictures, printed advertisements, written stories, and oral histories (I will schedule a date and time to meet with you to conduct an interview).
